🌱 What Are Mindful Moments?
Mindful Moments are ready-to-use wellbeing videos (approximately 5 minutes each), created to help children build:
-
Emotional awareness
-
Self-regulation
-
Resilience
-
Confidence
Each video focuses on one of the 24 VIA Character Strengths, introduced gently through an animal’s journey and brought to life through visual artwork.
There is no set order.
No daily requirement.
No pressure to “complete” anything.
Teachers and families use them when they’re needed most.
🦋 Why Each Character Strength Is Linked to an Animal
Children often find it difficult to talk directly about their feelings.
But when emotions are explored through an animal, reflection feels safer and more accessible.
In Mindful Moments:
-
Each character strength is represented by an animal or nature artwork
-
The animal’s movement, behaviour, or environment reflects the strength
-
Children naturally project their thoughts onto the animal’s story
For example:
-
A pelican may symbolise leadership
-
A koala may reflect humility
-
Other animals represent curiosity, bravery, perseverance, kindness and more
This indirect approach allows children to understand, remember, and apply character strengths without feeling exposed or judged.
🎨 How a Mindful Moment Works
Each Mindful Moment includes:
✔ A calm, story-led reflection
✔ An animal artwork as a visual anchor
✔ Language that is age-appropriate (Foundation–Upper Primary)
✔ A short, focused experience — just press play
As artist Kirsty draws, children listen to a gentle narrative that links the animal, the artwork, and the character strength together.
There are no scripts to follow, no worksheets, and no lecturing — just space to notice, feel, and reflect.
🏫 How Teachers Actually Use Mindful Moments
Mindful Moments are designed to fit into real school days, not ideal ones.
Teachers commonly use them:
-
After lunch or recess to reset energy
-
Before challenging lessons or assessments
-
During transitions or wet-weather days
-
As a daily wellbeing routine
-
To support emotional regulation and focus
Each video takes only a few minutes, with no setup and no follow-up required unless you choose to extend the conversation.
🧠 The 24 Character Strengths, Made Memorable
Mindful Moments explores all 24 VIA Character Strengths, including:
-
Curiosity
-
Creativity
-
Bravery
-
Kindness
-
Gratitude
-
Perseverance
-
Hope
-
Self-Regulation
By pairing each strength with story, art, and an animal, abstract ideas become concrete, visual, and emotionally meaningful for children.
🌈 Story-Led Wellbeing (Not Scripts or Lectures)
Mindful Moments was created to support reflection without forcing discussion.
Children are not asked to:
-
Share personal experiences publicly
-
Label emotions before they’re ready
-
Explain their artwork
Instead, the artwork and animal story act as a quiet mirror, allowing insight to emerge naturally — at school, at home, and in everyday life.
